RFI Can Disconnect your Internet Connection

Telephone RFI has plagued ham operators for years.  When it happens, it's usually very noticeable because someone complains that they can hear your transmissions in their telephone.  Maybe you hear it in your own phone.  But, what about your telephone connection to the internet?   Yes, interference will cause difficulty here too.  Unless you are aware of the potential problem, you may incorrectly assume it's your computer, your ISP, or even your logging software.  Don't be fooled.  Telephone RFI can cause random disconnects from your ISP.  The solutions are the same as the ones you would use to eliminate telephone interference.

Obtain a telephone RFI filter.
Devices are readily available from your favorite dealer that are designed to combat telephone RFI.  The trick is to install the device directly at the modem connection on the back of your computer.
Use Ferrite Squares This method uses ferrite squares that act as a choke to RF.  The trick here is to make sure you use the correct ferrite.  It is frequency sensitive so you you have to use ferrite that was designed to filter or choke the frequencies of interest.  You simply wrap the phone cable around the ferrite as close to the modem connection at the back of your computer as possible.
