| Internal
CW module fails to operate |
|
|
Symptom
|
|
The internal DXbase CW
module does not work. I have already made absolutely certain
that I have all the user options set correctly. I also
confirmed that I do not have any comport conflicts. I have
also made certain that the CW keyer circuit is properly wired and
connected from my computer to my rig. I have also confirmed
that the required entries for the driver are in my registry as
described in the DXbase help file. What else can I check? |
|
Cause |
|
The internal DXbase CW
module requires the use of a specially designed driver that allows
direct access to the leads of a port. The driver consists of
two parts. One is the required entries in the
registry. Depending upon the operating system you are using,
there are different registry entries required. You must be
sure that the correct registry entries are present and correct
based on the information in the help file. In some cases,
even though everything mentioned here has been confirmed, the CW
interface still does not work. In this case, it may be that
the required driver files did not get installed during
installation. Certain versions of WinXP have been reported
to block installation of the needed files. |
|
Solution |
|
A spare copy of the driver
files was placed in your DXbase 2005 folder. If you are
using WinXP, use windows explorer to copy the two driver files:
driverx.sys and driverx.vxd from your DXbase folder to the
following:
c:\windows\system32\drivers
After completing this, shut down your computer and start it
again. |

Recommendation |
|
DXbase also provides an
interface to the external CW board made by the makers of the
contest program Writelog. This external board eliminates all
of the issues associated with jerky CW due to the time sharing
design of Windows. This module does not require any special
drivers and it can be used on most serial comports. If you
want perfect CW under Windows, this is a much better
solution. See the DXbase help file for more details. |
